Men's Basketball Edged By AIC, 62-60, On Late Bucket

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Despite 22 points and 12 rebounds from junior guard Antoine Obery (Roselle, NJ), the Felician College men's basketball team was defeated by host American International College, 62-60, in non-conference action Saturday night at Butova Gymnasium.

Felician (0-3) trailed, 51-43, with eight minutes remaining in the game. After closing to within a two-point deficit on four occasions, the Golden Falcons knotted things at 58-58 on a jumper by junior David Williamson (Bronx, NY) at the 1:00 mark. American International ran the shot clock all the way down on its next possession before a David Campbell (Boston, MA) lay-up at 0:25 gave the hosts a two-point lead.

Felician looked to the hot hand of Obery (11-16 FG) to extend the game. But with seven seconds to play, Obery's driving floater banked too high off the backboard. AIC rebounded and Spencer Braithwaite (Dorchester, MA) converted two free throws to seal the victory. Obery made a jumper at the buzzer for the final margin.

John Tello (Ridgefield Park, NY) finished with 13 points and Williamson added 11 points and eight rebounds for Felician. The Yellow Jackets (1-2) were led by Campbell's 14 points and eight rebounds. The Golden Falcons wasted a 41-33 rebounding advantage, including 16-7 on the offensive glass.

The game featured nine ties and 12 lead changes. Felician jumped out to an early 10-5 lead, but AIC came out of a tightly contested first half with a 32-30 advantage.

The result was the second two-point victory for AIC over the Golden Falcons in as many years. The Yellow Jackets earned a 64-62 win against Felician last season in Rutherford, N.J., in the only other all-time meeting between the schools.
