Young, Root Selected Felician Senior Student-Athletes Of The Year
RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician College seniors Devon Young (Monmouth Junction, NJ/South Brunswick) and Sarah Root (Aberdeen, NJ/Old Bridge) have been named the 2010-11 Felician Male and Female Senior Student-Athletes of the Year. The duo was honored at the athletics department's senior banquet on Tuesday night at The Fiesta in Wood-Ridge.
The Felician Senior Student-Athletes of the Year are the male and female graduating athletes who, as selected by department administrators, best represent the mission statement of Golden Falcon athletics. Academic performance, athletic contribution, citizenship, and leadership both inside and outside of athletics are among the selection criteria.
Young, a forward for the men's basketball team, is possibly the most decorated student-athlete in Felician history. In 2010-11, he was voted a CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-American, and also earned his third Academic All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference and third Arthur Ashe Sports Scholar Award. On the floor, he is a three-time all-CACC and 2011 all-region honoree, and is Felician's all-time leading scorer with 1,958 points. He was also the MVP of the 2010 CACC Tournament. Young carries a 3.70 grade-point average as an accounting major. He is a 2007 graduate of South Brunswick High
Root is the first female in the 11-year history of Felician cross-country to attain all-CACC honors four times. She was Felician's 2011 recipient of the Woman of the Year Award from the New Jersey Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women, and was a member of the Academic All-CACC team the maximum three times. A 2007 graduate of Old Bridge High, Root maintains a 3.93 GPA as a double major in elementary education and history.
