RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician College junior Joe Petosa (Spotswood, NJ/Spotswood) has been elected to two all-region baseball teams in the last two days. Today, he was named to the Daktronics NCAA Division II All-East Region Second Team, as chosen by the region's sports information directors. On Wednesday he was announced as a member of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Assocation All-East Region First Team.
Petosa, a 5-foot-10 outfielder, is an all-region performer for the first time. He becomes the seventh Golden Falcon to earn that honor since Felician became an NCAA program in 2003. He is Felician's first all-region player since Phil Messerian made the Daktronics Second Team in 2010, and the first Golden Falcon First Teamer since Frank Quintana in 2007.
Petosa is the third all-region performer in any sport for Felician in the 2011-12 academic year, joining cross-country runners Rob Albano and James Vander Wiele.
In 47 games this season, Petosa batted .352, good for seventh in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, and his .462 on-base percentage is second in the CACC. He also led Felician in triples (4), home runs (3), runs scored (38), runs batted in (33), and stolen bases (14). He moved into the top ten at Felician in career base hits with 155 in three years.
Petosa has also been honored this spring as First Team All-CACC, First-Team All-New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association, and First Team Capital One Academic All-District.
The Division II East Region consists of the CACC, East Coast Conference, and Northeast-10 Conference. In total, 34 teams are encompassed.
