NEW CASTLE, Del. -- Senior pitcher Brian Dudzinski (Lincroft, NJ) allowed one hit over seven innings and senior shortstop Jimmy Simpson (Biscayne Park, FL) went 3 for 3 plus a walk as No. 1 seed Felician College advanced in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Baseball Tournament with a 5-1 victory over No. 4 seed Bloomfield College on Thursday afternoon at Wilson Field.

With its victory in the opening game of the double-elimination portion of the tournament, Felician (26-22) moves on to the winners' bracket final. The Golden Falcons will take on either tournament host and No. 2 seed Wilmington (Del.) University or No. 3 seed Dominican (N.Y.) College on Friday at 3 p.m. at Frawley Stadium in Wilmington.

In Thursday's contest, Bloomfield scored a run without a hit in the top of the first inning. Dudzinski hit the first batter of the game, Bloomfield's Jonattan Fernandez (Woodland Park, NJ), and then committed a throwing error on a sacrifice bunt attempt, moving Fernandez to third base. Two batters later, Rafael Medina (Key Largo, FL) came up with a sacrifice fly.

Felician tied the game in the bottom of the first on Simpson's RBI double, and the game remained 1-1 until the fourth, when the Golden Falcons loaded the bases with none out. Freshman Gary Lavoie (Hillsborough, NJ) put Felician ahead with a sacrifice fly, but Bloomfield starter Luis Mendoza (Bronx, NY) escaped further damage.

Dudzinski (5-5) held the Deacons at bay, allowing his only hit to Mike Monaco (Avenel, NJ) with one out in the second. He also worked around four hit batsmen and three walks. His offense gave him a cushion with three runs in the bottom of the sixth.

George Hajjar (Utica, NY) who had singled and stole second, scored on a wild pitch. Felician then put runners on second and third, and after pinch-hitter Chris Ayala (Marlboro, NJ) produced a sacrifice fly, Lavoie came home on an error to cap the scoring.

Jack Fowler (Shrewsbury, NJ) and Chet Godfrey (Millville, NJ) tossed an inning apiece for the Golden Falcons to complete the one-hitter. Mendoza (4-4) went the distance for Bloomfield (22-20), allowing three earned runs on nine hits with two strikeouts and seven walks.

Hajjar and Jay Collazo (Wall Township, NJ) had two hits apiece for the Golden Falcons. Felician won a game in the main draw of the CACC Tournament for the first time since 2006.
