Baseball Puts Seven On All-CACC Teams
RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician College baseball players Brian Dudzinski (Lincroft, NJ/Middletown South) and Joe Petosa (Spotswood, NJ/Spotswood) have been elected to the 2012 All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Baseball First Team, the CACC released on Tuesday. Felician also put three student-athletes on the All-CACC Second Team, and had two Honorable Mention selections. The conference's 11 head coaches voted on the award winners.
Dudzinski, a senior pitcher, is in his first year with the Golden Falcons after transferring from Furman University. In 14 games (11 starts), he is 4-5 with one save and a 2.64 earned-run average. He is among the top 20 Division II pitchers nationwide in hits allowed per nine innings (5.71), and has an opponent batting average of .177. Dudzinski, who is third in the CACC with 73 strikeouts in 64 2/3 innings, went 4-1 in CACC games.
Petosa, a junior outfielder, earns his third consecutive All-CACC award and his second First Team honor. He is among the top five players in the conference in batting (.366), on-base percentage (.478), runs (37), triples (4), and walks (31). Petosa also tops Felician with 30 runs batted in and 14 stolen bases. He hit .414 in conference action.
All-CACC Second-Team Honors were accorded to senior outfielder George Hajjar (Utica, NY/Whitesboro), freshman relief pitcher Matthew Facendo (Hazlet, NJ/Raritan), and junior catcher Kevin Whitehead (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore East). All three are first-time all-conference honorees. Hajjar is batting .294 with 10 extra base hits, including two home runs, 24 runs scored, 20 RBI and 12 stolen bases in 43 games. In CACC action he hit .373.
Facendo, a two-time CACC Rookie of the Week, has tied a Felician single-season record with seven saves. He is 1-0 with a 1.96 ERA in 19 games, and has struck out 33 batters while walking six in 23 innings. His win and all seven of his saves came in CACC games, during which he did not give up an earned run in 11 2/3 innings.
Whitehead is hitting .258 with a .406 on-base percentage. He leads Felician with nine doubles, and has 19 runs and 27 RBI. He drove in 22 runs in 19 CACC starts.
Junior third-baseman Mike Farrell (Lincroft, NJ/Middletown South) and senior shortstop Jimmy Simpson (Biscayne Park, FL/Coral Gables) were elected All-CACC Honorable Mention. Both are all-conference selections for the second consecutive season.
The Golden Falcons (25-22, 16-4) are the No. 1 seed in the 2012 CACC Tournament, which begins on Thursday in New Castle, Del. Across all sports, Felician finished the 2011-12 academic year with 21 all-conference student-athletes.
