RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician College junior Mike Farrell (Lincroft, NJ/Middletown South) has been selected as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Baseball Player of the Week, the CACC announced on Tuesday. Additionally, senior Kenny Monteith (Denville, NJ/Morristown-Beard) was named the CACC Pitcher of the Week. It was the first set of weekly awards handed out by the CACC for the 2012 baseball season.
The first reporting period included all season-to-date games played through Feb. 26. Farrell, a 6-foot third-baseman, has started all eight contests for the Golden Falcons, going 10 for 28 (.357) at the plate with a .455 on-base percentage. He has one extra-base hit, a triple, six runs scored and three runs batted in. Farrell is a 2009 graduate of Middletown High School South.
Monteith, a 6-foot-2 right-hander, is in his first season with Felician after transferring from Division-I Winthrop University. He made two starts during the reporting period, going 1-0 with a 0.66 ERA. He pitched 7 2/3 shutout innings in a victory over No. 7 nationally-ranked Southern Connecticut State University on Feb. 18 in Morehead City, N.C. In 13 1/3 innings he has given up nine hits, struck out 16 and walked four with a .180 opponent batting average. Monteith is a 2008 graduate of the Morristown-Beard School.
Felician is a NCAA Division II member of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. The Golden Falcons have a 4-4 overall won-lost record heading into Friday's game against Mercyhurst College in Lantana, Fla.
