RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician College freshman James Vander Wiele of Pequannock has been named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Men’s Cross-Country Rookie of the Week, the CACC announced today. It marks Vander Wiele’s second consecutive such honor.
Vander Wiele finished 20th out of 270 competitors, including first of Felician’s pack of six, at the Lehigh University Paul Short Run on Friday afternoon at Lehigh’s Goodman Campus in Bethlehem, Pa. His time of 26 minutes, 26 seconds, for 8,000 meters was a personal collegiate best. He helped Golden Falcons, ranked No. 8 in the Division II East Region, to a 12th place finish out of 41 teams. They defeated four other teams in the regional top ten.
Vander Wiele was also named the CACC Rookie of the Week on Sept. 29, two days after he finished third in the Belmont Classic, running a 26:58 and leading the Golden Falcons to the team championship. He is a 2008 graduate of Pequannock Township High.
More information is available at www.caccathletics.org/sports/xc/2008/News/WR.xc.10-6-08. Also on Monday, senior Jenna Krowl (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) of the women’s soccer team was selected to the CACC Weekly Honor Roll. |
