BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- In one of the nation's largest cross-country meets, Felician College placed 28th out of 43 teams at the Lehigh University Paul Short Women's "White" race on Friday afternoon at Lehigh's Goodman Campus.
Including both genders, the Paul Short Run hosted more than 4,100 college and high school competitors on Friday. The Women's College "White" race was a varsity 6,000-meter event featuring predominantly Division II and III competition. The Golden Falcons finished fourth out of six D-II East Region teams in attendance with 671 points, ahead of New York Institute of Technology (889) and an incomplete Chestnut Hill College squad.
Sophomore Sarah Root (Aberdeen, NJ/Old Bridge) was Felician's frontrunner for the fourth consecutive race. She set a personal best for a 6K race, coming in 83rd out of 260 finishers with a time of 24 minutes flat.
The next three Golden Falcons crossed the finish line 21 seconds apart. Freshman Meghan Corless (Middletown, NJ/Mater Dei) was 131st in 24:49, followed by senior Amanda Scibetta (Middletown, NJ/Middletown North) (141st, 25:05), and junior Sophia Chick (Edison, NJ/Edison) (144th, 25:10), who also posted a career-low 6K time. The No. 5 runner and final scorer was sophomore Toni Fowler (Mt. Holly, NJ/Rancocas Valley) who placed 192nd in 26:34.
Cortland State University won the event with 102 points. Senior Christa Johnson of Ursinus College was the individual champion (21:38).
