MIDDLETOWN, Del. -- The Felician College golf team began its fourth varsity season with a seventh-place showing at the 36-hole Wilmington University Fall Classic, held Sunday and Monday at Back Creek Golf Course.
Felician's team two-day total of 683 trailed tournament champion Saint Thomas Aquinas College by 90 strokes and was 20 back of sixth-place Philadelphia University. The Golden Falcons were one of six Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference team's in attendance. Their Day 1 team score of 338 on Sunday was a school record.
Sophomore Joe Leardo (Belleville, NJ) led the Felician contingent, tying for 21st out of 40 entrants with a 15-over-par total of 157. He was the only Golden Falcon to shoot a sub-80 round on both days. Junior Joe Peters (Barnegat, NJ) tied for 31st with 79-85-164. Also figuring in the team scoring were juniors Rob Young (Glendale, NY) (34th, 81-89-140), and Jason Smith (Gibbstown, NJ) (38th, 99-93-192).
Tyler Harman of Goldey-Beacom College was the medalist with a one-over-par 143. Wilmington will host the CACC Championship at Back Creek in April.
