RUTHERFORD, N.J. – In a match in which little pressure was put on the goalkeepers, a penalty kick conversion by Post University in the 52nd minute proved to be the difference in the Eagles’ 2-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men’s soccer victory over host Felician College on Tuesday afternoon at Tryon Field.
The teams went into halftime tied, 1-1. But fewer than seven minutes into period two, a Felician player was whistled for a handball in the penalty area. The ensuing kick by Eagle junior Eurica Trowers (Bronx, NY/Clinton) got past the outstretched arms of Golden Falcon goalkeeper Paulo DosSantos (Toronto, Canada/Sir Oliver Mowat) and just inside the left post.
Felician struck first in the contest when a Boris Shabovta (Manalapan, NJ/John Dewey [NY]) cross was headed into the net by freshman Carlos Canido (Santa Cruz, Bolivia/Tahuichi Academy) at 7:56. Post evened the score on a similar goal in the 19th minute, with Trowers heading home a cross from Frantzy Noze (Norwich, CT/NFA). But neither team put another shot on goal in the first half, and of the 21 shots the teams combined for in the game, only five were on net.
Eagle goalkeeper Michael Aeschliman (Torrington, CT/Torrington) earned the victory with one save. Felician’s best scoring chance down the stretch came when a Lukas Fraczek (Szczytno, Poland/Winchendon) header missed wide with three minutes to play. DosSantos had one save for the Golden Falcons.
Trowers has six goals in three career games against Felician.
