 RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician College freshman James Vander Wiele of Pequannock has been named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Men’s Cross-Country Rookie of the Week, the CACC announced today.
Vander Wiele led Felician to the team championship in Saturday’s Belmont Classic, hosted by Cabrini College at Fairmount Park in Philadelphia. He turned in a time of 26 minutes, 58 seconds, for 8,000 meters, and finished third overall (first among freshmen) out of 167 competitors.
The Belmont Classic was just Vander Wiele’s second career race for the Golden Falcons. He improved by 52 seconds over his collegiate debut, a 27:50 at the Monmouth Invitational on Sept. 19. Vander Wiele is a 2008 graduate of Pequannock Township High.
