PHILADELPHIA -- The Felician College men's cross-country team put four runners in the top ten to win the team championship at the Belmont Classic, hosted by Cabrini College on Saturday afternoon at Fairmount Park's Belmont Plateau.

Freshman James Vander Wiele (Pequannock, NJ/Pequannock Township) led the Felician pack, turning in an 8,000-meter time of 26 minutes, 58 seconds. Vander Wiele ran 52 seconds faster than in his collegiate debut last week, and was third overall out of 167 entrants.

Senior Alex Wright (Stockholm, NJ/Wallkill Valley) finished fifth, traversing the mostly grass course in 27:48. He was followed closely by junior Brad Schepise (Milltown, NJ/Spotswood) (7th, 27:51) and redshirt freshman John Wambui (Mbita, Kenya/St. Joseph's) (9th, 28:02). Sophomore Huan Tran (Belleville, NJ/Belleville) rounded out the Golden Falcon scoring, ending up 27th with a collegiate best 8K time of 29:09.

Nineteen schools sent full teams to the event. With 51 points, Felician easily outscored runner-up and regionally-ranked Philadelphia University, who had 88 and was the only other squad under 100. Including the Golden Falcons and Rams, five schools in attendance were Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference members. Shawn D'Andrea of Philadelphia was the individual champion (26:38).
