PHILADELPHIA -- Led by sophomore Sarah Root's (Aberdeen, NJ/Old Bridge) personal best of 20 minutes, 48 seconds, for 5,000 meters, the Felician College women's cross-country team finished fifth out of 17 schools at the Belmont Classic on Saturday afternoon at Fairmount Park's Belmont Plateau.

In its first race of the season without Division-I competition, Felician ended up in second place among the six Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference teams in attendance. Root crossed the line 11th out of 150 runners, and came in third among CACC entrants. She broke the 21-minute mark for the first time in her collegiate career in a 5K race.

The other four scorers for the Golden Falcons finished within 26 seconds of one another. Senior Amanda Scibetta (Middletown, NJ/Middletown North) was 24th overall in 21:35. She was followed by freshman Meghan Corless (Middletown, NJ/Mater Dei) (27th, 21:51), freshman Leslie Feola (Oak Ridge, NJ/DePaul Catholic) (30th, 21:59), and junior Sophia Chick (Edison, NJ/Edison) (31st, 22:01). While not figuring in the team scoring, sophomore Kaitlyn Minehan (Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) established a personal best with a 23:01. She finished 53rd.

Ursinus College won the team championship, edging Philadelphia University by a single point. Senior Christa Johnson of Ursinus was the individual winner (18:44).
