RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician College senior Lindsey Petry of Newton has been named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Week, the CACC announced today. Additionally, the conference selected Felician freshman Carlos Canido of Santa Cruz, Bolivia, as Men’s Soccer Co-Rookie of the Week.

Canido, who attended St. Benedict’s Prep of Newark as a postgraduate in 2006-07, shared the men’s rookie award with Francis Eno of Post University. A 6-foot-1 midfielder, Canido scored two of his team’s three goals in a 1-1 week, including the game-winner in Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Chestnut Hill College. His three goals in 2008 top the Golden Falcons. Felician (3-3, 1-1) plays at Caldwell College on Tuesday.

Petry, a 5-foot-8 central midfielder, recorded three goals and five assists during a 3-0 week for the Golden Falcons, participating in eight of the nine goals her team scored during the week. She recorded a goal and two assists in a 3-0 win over Bloomfield last Tuesday, one goal and one helper as Felician won at St. Thomas Aquinas College, 3-2 on Thursday, and a goal and two assists in Saturday’s home triumph over Chestnut Hill.

Petry’s 11 points leads the Golden Falcons on the year. The Felician women are 3-4 overall and 2-1 in CACC play heading into this Wednesday’s league showdown at Caldwell. Petry is a 2004 graduate of Kittatinny Regional, and played at Sussex County Community College for two seasons.
