HOLMDEL, N.J. -- Felician College's top five women's cross-country runners finished within one minute, 29 seconds, of each other at the Monmouth University Invitational, the tighest spread of the four non Division-I teams to complete in the event Friday afternoon at Holmdel Park.
The 10 Division I schools in the race were scored separately in the team standings, and the Golden Falcons finished third in the D-II/III results with 64 points. Sophomore Sarah Root (Aberdeen, NJ/Old Bridge) was Felician's top finisher for the second consecutive week. She edged teammate Amanda Scibetta (Middletown, NJ) by two seconds with a 21:09 for 5,000 meters on a course known for its steep hills.
Root ended up in 68th place and Scibetta 69th out of 145 competitors, and were 10th and 11th, respectively, of 27 D-II/III runners. Megan Corless (Middletown, NJ) made her collegiate debut and ran a 21:19, good for 73rd and 12th. Also scoring for the Golden Falcons were freshman Leslie Feola (Oak Ridge, NJ) (22:12, 95th-14th), and junior Sophia Chick (Edison, NJ) (22:38, 105th-17th).
Quinnipiac University won the Division I team results with 44 points, and Lock Haven University scored 24 points for the Division II/III championship. Cheyenne Ogletree of Rutgers University was the individual winner (18:23).
