RUTHERFORD, N.J. – After a season-opening tournament in Vermont, the Felician College women’s soccer team will play 11 of its next 17 matches at home, according to the 2008 schedule released today.

Felician has 20 games slated for this season, all against NCAA Division II East Region opponents. Six of the 11 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference tilts are at home this season, and five non-league matches in Rutherford have been added. Five of the home dates will be night games.

The Golden Falcons will open the season with a trip to Saint Michael’s College in Winooski, Vt., for the SMC DoubleTree Kick Off on Aug. 29-30. Both of their opponents that weekend, Merrimack College and the host Purple Knights, finished 2007 with a regional ranking.

“While the schedule was finished before I was hired, I’m happy with it,” said first-year head coach Thomas Notte. “I’m excited to have so many home games, and I think we’ll get tested early. Having a travel tournament to start the season will give us a chance to build togetherness before classes begin.”

Felician will be looking to rebound from a 5-12-1 overall won-lost-tied record in 2006. All five teams it defeated are on the 2008 slate, including non-conference foes Saint Thomas Aquinas College (away, Sept. 18) and Concordia (N.Y.) College (home, Oct. 17).
