Felician Athletics - 7/10/08 BASEBALL - Riker, VanEs Join Quintana On Gunslingers

TEXARKANA, Texas -- The independent Texarkana Gunslingers of the Continental Baseball League recently purchased the contract of right-handed pitcher and Felician College product Nick Riker (Highlands, NJ/Red Bank Catholic/Brookdale CC) from the NYSL Capitols of the New York State League. Texarkana has also announced the signing of Felician baseball alumnus and right-handed pitcher Scott VanEs (Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus) following his release from the NYSL.

VanEs becomes the fourth former Golden Falcon to sign a contract with the Gunslingers, who were 6-0 in the second half of the CBL season before the league headed into its all-star break. 2007 graduate Kenny Vanderhee signed prior to this season but was released at the end of spring training. Frank Quintana (Miami, FL/South Miami), Felician's all-time homerun leader, is a rookie first-baseman for Texarkana. Quintana is batting .217 with three doubles, 13 runs and 11 RBI in 37 games.

Riker made his first professional start for the Gunslingers on July 6, allowing one run on three hits with six strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings in a no-decision during a 9-2 Texarkana victory over the McKinney Blue Thunder. Quintana had three hits that night. VanEs has yet to appear in a CBL game.
