RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Former Felician College student-athletes Jason Romer (New York, NY/Wadleigh) and Heather Van Dyke (West Milford, NJ/West Milford) have been awarded 2008 NCAA Division II Degree-Completion Scholarships.

The NCAA established the Division II Degree-Completion Award Program in 2001 to provide financial assistance to deserving student athletes with completion of a first baccalaureate degree. To be eligible, candidates must have exhausted their athletic eligibility and at one time received athletics financial aid. Romer and Van Dyke are two of 86 Division II student-athletes honored in 2008, including five from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.

Romer, a guard for the men’s basketball team, played two seasons at Felician after transferring from Long Island University. As a senior, he was named Third-Team All-CACC and Academic-All CACC, and was selected as an Arthur Ashe Sports Scholar by Diverse Issues in Higher Education. Romer carries a 3.53 grade-point average as a business administration major.

Van Dyke recently concluded a four-year career as the starting catcher for the softball team. A three-time Academic All-CACC honoree and Felician’s 2008 NJAIAW Woman of the Year, she owns a double-major in elementary education and mathematics with a 3.97 GPA. She was named the Golden Falcons’ Female Senior Student-Athlete of the Year.
