RUTHERFORD, N.J. – High-school senior James Vander Wiele of Pequannock has signed a national letter of intent to continue his cross-country career at Felician College, Felician head coach John Brennan announced today.

Vander Wiele was a first-team all-state Group 2 honoree during his senior cross-country season at Pequannock High last fall. He also attained first-team All-Morris County and All-Northern Hills Conference status, and was named to the all-area team of three newspapers.

Vander Wiele was also a member of the track & field team for the Golden Panthers. He holds the school record in the 3,200-meter run and earned first-team All-NHC honors in 2007. He expects to major in business administration. His mother, Beverly, is a 1981 graduate of Felician.

The Felician men’s cross-country team is the four-time defending Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference team champion, and has won six of the last eight conference crowns. In 2007, the Golden Falcons claimed the maximum of seven all-CACC runners, then finished 15th at the NCAA Division II East Regional.
