Jon Del Franco
DEL FRANCO
PHILADELPHIA – A two-out two-run single by sophomore Jon Del Franco (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) in the top of the 11th inning lifted the Felician College baseball team to a 4-3 Game 2 victory and a split of its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader with host Philadelphia University on Saturday at Alumni Field. Philadelphia clinched the season series between the teams by winning Game 1, 5-3.

In the nightcap, Felician (22-20, 14-9) put its first two hitters on base in the 11th. Two outs later, a wild pitch moved runners to second and third, and Del Franco followed with his third hit of the game. Sophomore left-hander Danny Conti (Aberdeen, NJ/Matawan Regional) (1-3), yielded a run in the bottom of the 11th before escaping a bases-loaded one-out jam to secure the victory. Conti allowed three hits and struck out two in two innings.

The contest, scheduled for seven innings, entered the top of the ninth tied, 1-1. Del Franco hit a two-out solo homerun to put the Golden Falcons ahead, but the Rams scored on a wild pitch in the bottom half. Del Franco was 3 for 5 with three RBI and Marcos Torres (Miami, FL/South Miami) had two doubles in a 3 for 5 showing. Ram starter Andrew Bednarek (Sea Isle City, NJ/Ocean City) allowed an unearned run on four hits in seven innings.

Philadelphia (17-19, 15-7) scored five unearned runs in the bottom of the third inning of Game 1 to erase a 3-0 deficit. With one out, Dan Wothers (Pennsburg, PA/Upper Perkiomen) reached second base on an error and scored on a JungMin Lee (Seoul, Korea/Sunrin) single. Two batters later, another error extended the inning and allowed a run to score. Devin Conroy (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush) delivered a go-ahead two-run single, and a run-scoring hit from Jason Hartley (Levittown, PA/Neshaminy) capped the rally.

Ram right-hander Rob Fisher (Langhorne, PA/Archbishop Ryan) (2-2) held the Felician offense the rest of the way, with Jared Farbman (Philadelphia, PA/Central) recording the final out for his first save. Lee went 2 for 2 plus a walk. Felician’s Scott VanEs (Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus) (2-3) did not allow an earned run in a complete-game effort, striking out seven and walking two. Hector Bello (Miami, FL/Miami Coral Park) drove in two runs, and Torres had two hits to go 5 for 9 on the day.
