 BRESCIA RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Felician College freshman Joe Brescia of Holmdel has been named the New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association Division II/III Rookie Pitcher of the Week for the second consecutive week, the NJCBA announced today. Also, Felician freshman Mickey Zudonyi of Holmdel is today's NJCBA D-II/III Rookie Player of the Week.
Both honors are for games played April 14-20. Brescia, a 6-foot-5 right-handed reliever, pitched 5 1/3 scoreless innings in three appearances, earning two saves. He allowed three hits, struck out four batters, and walked one. With his sixth and seventh saves of the season, he broke the Felician and the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference records, respectively, for single-year saves. On the season, he is 1-0 with a 0.89 earned-run average and a .149 opponent batting average in 14 games.
Zudonyi, who was also named the CACC Rookie of the Week, had six multi-hit games in leading Felician to a 6-1 week.He hit .519 (14 for 27) -- all with wood bats -- and had a .567 on-base percentage from the leadoff spot, with nine runs scored and nine runs driven in. A 5-foot-9 second-baseman, Zudonyi started one game each at shortstop and left field and handled 31 errorless chances. He is batting .311 on the season with a homerun, 27 runs scored and 22 RBI in 36 starts.
Both players are 2007 graduates of Holmdel High. Felician has an overall won-lost record of 21-18 and is 13-7 in CACC action heading into this afternoon's game at Philadelphia University. |
