LODI, N.J. – Junior Nicole Broecker (Staten Island, NY) pitched a four-hit shutout as Felician College defeated visiting Nyack College, 3-0, in Game 1 of the teams’ Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference softball doubleheader on Thursday afternoon at Kennedy Park. Nyack earned a 3-1 victory in Game 2.

Felician freshman Samantha Ortiz (Brooklyn, NY) hit a two-out, two-run homerun in the bottom of the first inning to give her team the early lead in the day’s opening game. Broecker (5-8) made it stand up, escaping two-on, one-out jams in the first and sixth inning and retiring Nyack’s leading hitter, freshman Christina Brazeil (Magnolia, TX) as the potential tying run in the seventh. Broecker struck out three batters and walked one.

Hope Van Dyke (West Milford, NJ) added an RBI single in the sixth for the Golden Falcons (13-21, 8-11). Nyack pitcher Sarah Bolles (Wallingford, CT) allowed one earned run on six hits in six innings.

The Warriors’ Lauren Merkley (Kinnelon, NJ) pitched a three-hitter with eight strikeouts to pick up the victory in the nightcap. Lauren Campbell (Katy, TX) scored twice after being hit by pitches, coming home on a Danielle Palentchar (Westfield, NJ) groundout in the top of the third inning and on Brazeil’s two-run homer in the fifth. Felician loaded the bases with none out in the sixth, but came away with just one run.

Braziel went 3 for 4 with a double and homer for Nyack (9-29, 4-18). The Golden Falcons’ Dara DeSocio (Cliffside Park, NJ) went the distance on a five hitter with five strikeouts and one walk. Jenna Krowl (Kearny, NJ) was 2 for 2 plus a walk, and Rebecca Dodd (Oakland, NJ) had an RBI fielder’s choice.
