LYNDHURST, N.J. – Sophomore left-hander Al Jardine (Neptune, NJ) and three relievers combined on a three-hit shutout as the Felician College baseball team defeated visiting Bloomfield College, 5-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action Monday night at Breslin Field. The Golden Falcons have won five consecutive games and nine of their last 10.

Felician (20-16, 12-6) scored all five of its runs with two outs. Mickey Zudonyi (Holmdel, NJ) came home on a wild pitch in the first inning, and Dave Schoer (Manalapan, NJ) stroked a two-run single in the bottom of the third. In the fifth, Mike Libretta (Staten Island, NY) plated Zudonyi with a RBI single.

Jardine (2-0) delivered his longest outing of the season, allowing three hits in 6 1/3 scoreless innings. He struck out four batters and walked two. Scott VanEs (Secaucus, NJ), working on one day of rest after a start, struck out three of the five batters he faced, and John Calise (Staten Island, NY) recorded the final three outs. Anthony Balmos (Egg Harbor Township, NJ) provided the final margin, scoring on a wild pitch in the seventh.

Vinnie DiBenedetti (Forked River, NJ) went 3 for 4 for the Golden Falcons, and Zudonyi and Libretta had two hits apiece. Left-hander Seth Stimpfel (Jackson, NJ) (4-6) yielded four runs on eight hits in six innings for the Deacons (14-28, 5-12), striking out five. Bloomfield’s Robert Beyer (Edison, NJ) had a triple. Felician has reached the 20-win plateau for the third consecutive season and fourth time in the nine-year program history.
