LODI, N.J. – Felician College stroked 21 base hits, but could not come away with a victory in its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference softball doubleheader against visiting Caldwell College on Wednesday afternoon at Kennedy Park. Caldwell, the No. 6 team in the most recent Division II Northeast Regional Ranking, won both games by scores of 9-7 and 8-1.

The Cougars (21-13, 11-1) scored seven runs in the top of the seventh inning of Game 1 to erase a 6-2 deficit, putting its first seven runners of the inning on base. After loading the bases on a walk, a hit, and a Felician error, Caldwell received a run-scoring single from Nicole Bodrog (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) and a walk to Danielle Genovese (Livingston, NJ/Livingston).

Junior Gina Capardi (West Caldwell, NJ/James Caldwell) followed with another RBI single, and the tying and go-ahead runs also came home on an outfield error. Three batters later, Brittni Frantellizzi (Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley) capped the rally with a two-run double. Felician’s Jenna Krowl (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh, but Cougar starting pitcher Brittany Pulido (Ojai, CA/Nordhoff) re-entered and recorded the final out for her second save.

Felician (12-18, 7-10) had chased Pulido with a six-run fourth inning, capped by a grand-slam homerun by freshman Samantha Ortiz (Brooklyn, NY/Midwood). Caldwell’s Annie Forte (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) (3-2) allowed a run on three hits in 2 2/3 innings of relief work, and Capardi had a two-run homer. Hope Van Dyke (West Milford, NJ/West Milford) went 3 for 4 for the Golden Falcons.

Caldwell hit three homers and right-hander Kristen de la Campa (Whitman, MA/Whitman Hanson) scattered eight hits in a complete game victory in the nightcap. Capardi opened the scoring with a solo homer in the fourth inning, and the Cougars broke the game open with three runs in the fifth before scoring four times in the seventh. Bodrog and Forte also homered and drove in two runs apiece. Krowl was 3 for 4 with a double and Katie Spera (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Township) added two hits for Felician.
