RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Felician College freshmen Hector Bello (Miami, FL/Miami Coral Park) and Joe Brescia (Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel) have been named the Division II/III Rookie Player of the Week and Rookie Pitcher of the Week, respectively, by the New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association, the NJCBA announced today.

Bello, a 5-foot-11 shortstop, was also named the Rookie of the Week by the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. He batted .458 (11 for 24) and slugged .667 with a homerun, four runs scored and four runs batted in during a 4-3 week for the Golden Falcons (Apr. 7-13), all in wood-bat action. He is Felician's leading hitter on the season at .340 with two homers, 18 runs, 17 RBI and six stolen bases in 30 games. Today marks his second NJCBA honor of the season.

Brescia, a 6-foot-5 right-handed reliever, earned a win and two saves in three appearances last week. In 3 2/3 innings, he allowed no earned runs on one hit, struck out three batters, and walked none. He tied the school single-season record for saves with five, which then broke on Mon., Apr. 14. On the season, Brescia is 1-0 with a 1.00 earned-run avearage, six saves, and a .138 opponent batting average in 12 appearances.

Felician is 15-16 overall and 8-6 in CACC games heading into a non-conference contest at Mercy College on Thursday. The NJCBA is comprised of the baseball-playing four-year colleges in New Jersey.
