PHILADELPHIA – Four Felician College pitchers yielded 13 walks, including one with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 13th inning, in the Golden Falcons’ 8-7 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference baseball loss to host University of the Sciences in Philadelphia on Tuesday afternoon at Richie Ashburn Field.
USP’s David Kittle (Maple Shade, NJ/Camden Catholic) and Michael Curry (Collegeville, PA/St. Pius X) began the 13th with consecutive singles off of Felician left-hander John Calise (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter’s) (2-2). Following a sacrifice and an intentional walk, Mark Forbes (Hockessin, DE/Salesianum) drew a walk, forcing in Kittle with the winning run more than four hours, 15 minutes, after the first pitch.
The Devils (9-20, 5-9) recovered from two late deficits to extend the game. Trailing 6-3 after 7 ½ innings, USP scored three runs without benefit of a base hit to tie the game in the eighth, taking advantage of five walks and a hit batsman by the Golden Falcon bullpen. Felician received an RBI double from Hector Bello (Miami, FL/Miami Coral Park) in the top of the 12th, but USP drew two two-out walks before pinch-hitter Adam Kissinger (Egg Harbor Township, EHT) grounded a run-scoring single through the left side and forced the 13th.
Kittle and Curry had three hits apiece and Mike Kleinschmidt (Newark, DE/St. Mark’s) drove in three runs for the Devils. Tim Summers (Monrovia, MD/Urbana) (5-2) struck out seven batters and walked none in seven innings of relief work. For Felician (15-16, 8-6), Mickey Zudonyi (Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel) went 4 for 6 and Bello was 3 for 4 with two doubles and two stolen bases. Mike Libretta (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) picked up two hits, including a double, and three RBI.
The teams combined to use 34 players. The contest ended a stretch of eight league games in six days for the Golden Falcons.
