RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician College freshman Devon Young of Monmouth Junction has been voted to the Men’s Division II Second Team of the 2008 Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) awards program, according to balloting released today. The voting was conducted by the Division II coaches in the New York tri-state area.
Young, a 6-foot-3 forward, led Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference freshmen in scoring and finished fifth overall with 16.8 points per game. He also averaged 5.6 rebounds in being named the conference Rookie of the Year. He scored in double figures in 24 of 27 games, including 20 or more points on nine occasions, for the 10-17 Golden Falcons, and registered four double-doubles. A 2007 graduate of South Brunswick High, Young was a two-time MBWA Weekly Honor Roll selection during the season.
LIU-C.W. Post captured both major awards, with Jonathan Schmidt winning Player of the Year and Tim Cluess capturing Coach-of-the-Year honors. Young and his fellow honorees will be honored at the 75th Met Basketball Writers awards dinner on Thursday, April 17 at the Giants Stadium Club in East Rutherford.
