ORANGE, Conn. -- Freshman Joe Leardo (Belleville, NJ) set a school record by shooting 72 in the Felician golf team's 359-379 loss to host University of New Haven on Tuesday afternoon at Racebrook Country Club.
On the par-71 course, Leardo came within a stroke of becoming the first Golden Falcon golfer to shoot an even-par round. He was the medalist for the afternoon. His score bettered by three shots the record teammate Joe Peters (Barnegat, NJ) had established just five days earlier. Peters shot 78 on Tuesday for his fourth consecutive sub-80 round, and finished second out of eight competitors.
The Chargers, however, took the victory with a spread of only 25 strokes among their four entrants. The match was Felician's last competition before the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship next Monday and Tuesday.
