BROECKER LODI, N.J. – Felician College redshirt freshman shortstop Lauren DeGrushe (Guttenberg, NJ/High Tech) hit three solo homeruns during her team’s non-conference doubleheader split with visiting Molloy College on Thursday afternoon at Kennedy Park. Felician won Game 1, 3-1, before Molloy took Game 2, 9-2.
The Golden Falcons (7-12) fell behind, 1-0, in the third inning of the opener on a two-out solo homer by the Lions’ Michelle Walsh (Bellerose, NY/Mary Louis Academy). But that was the last baserunner allowed by Felician right-hander Nicole Broecker (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic), who finished with a two-hitter. Broecker (2-5) retired her final 13 batters, struck out seven, and walked none, and also went 2 for 3 with a double at the plate.
Meanwhile, DeGrushe tied the game with a one-out round-tripper to center field in the bottom of the fourth inning, and put the Golden Falcons ahead when she led off the sixth with a drive to nearly the same location. Felician tacked on another run in the inning when Dara DeSocio (Cliffside Park, NJ/Paramus Catholic) plated Broecker with an RBI single. DeGrushe finished 3 for 3 in a game that needed only 1 hour, 1 minute, to complete.
Molloy took a 5-1 lead after three innings of the nightcap and pitcher Florence Williams (Tallahassee, FL) (4-4) made it stand up with a four-hitter. Junior Amanda Havdoglous (North Babylon, NY) went 2 for 4 with five runs batted in, including a three-run homerun in the seventh, and Walsh also homered for the Lions (12-12). DeGrushe hit a longball to left in the first inning and scored both runs for Felician.
In six plate appearances on the day, DeGrushe went 4 for 4 plus two walks, scored four runs, and drove in three. The teams combined for 13 extra-base hits in the twinbill.
