3/27/08 BASEBALL - Golden Falcons Fall In Conference Opener, 7-1 Print E-mail
PARSIPPANY, N.J. -- The Felician College baseball team went down to a 7-1 defeat to host Caldwell College on Thursday afternoon at Smith field in its first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest of the 2008 season.

Caldwell (6-8, 1-1) took control of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning, breaking a scoreless tie with a five-run rally. The Cougars loaded the bases with no one out on a hit-batsman and two misplayed sacrifice attempts. Tommy Murphy (Monroe, NY) was hit by a pitch to drive in the game's first run, and teammate Chris Chiarappa (Elmont, NY) followed with a two-run single. A Ray Keelan (Barnegat, NJ) grounder and a single by by Adric Saxon (Coral Springs, FL) plated the final two runs of the inning.

Caldwell right-hander Stephen Pfeil (Hampstead, NH) outdueled Golden Falcon starting pitcher Nick Riker (Highlands, NJ). Pfeil (1-2) struck out 11 batters and walked one over eight innings of work, yielding five hits and one run. Riker (0-4) gave up six runs on six hits and struck out seven in five-plus innings.

Murphy finished 2 for 3 with a double and three runs batted in, while Saxon went 2 for 4. Jon Del Franco (Bridgewater, NJ) hit a solo home run for Felician (7-11, 0-1).
