LODI, N.J. – Bryant University led, 8-1, after four innings en route to a 15-5 non-conference baseball victory over host Felician College on Sunday afternoon at Kennedy Park. Bryant is ranked No. 2 and Felician No. 10 in the most recent Division II Northeast Region writers poll.
Three Bulldog pitchers combined on a four-hitter. Bryant (7-3), meanwhile, scored four times with the help of only one combined base hit in the second and third innings, then loaded the bases with no one out to start the top of the fourth. One out later, junior Pat McKenna (Orange, CT/Amity) broke the game open with a grand slam to left-center field. McKenna finished 3 for 6 with a triple and six runs batted in, and teammate Nick Campbell (Raynham, MA/Bridgewater-Raynham) went 4 for 6.
With a steady wind blowing straight out, each team homered three times. Bulldog starting pitcher Eric Loh (Old Greenwich, CT/Greenwich) (3-0) struck out 10 batters and allowed three hits in 6 1/3 innings, but all three hits were longballs as Loh was charged with all five Golden Falcon runs. Mike Libretta (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) had Felician’s first hit with a fourth-inning solo shot, Chris Flynn (Keyport, NJ/Keyport) went deep in the sixth, and freshman Hector Bello (Miami, FL/Miami Coral Park) hit his first career homer with a three-run blast in the seventh.
Bryant’s Taylor Ferguson (Charlton, MA/St. John’s) was 2 for 4 with 4 RBI, including a three-run round-tripper in the ninth, and Pat O’Connor (Mattapoisett, MA/Old Rochester) also homered and scored three times. Starter B.J. Senna (Wallingford, CT/Sheehan) (1-1) worked three innings for the Golden Falcons (3-5), giving up four earned runs.
