Felician Athletics - 3/7/08 WOMEN'S SOCCER - Women's Soccer Hands Out Team Awards

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Felician College women’s soccer program handed out its three annual individual awards at the 2007 team banquet last Sunday at The Fiesta in Wood-Ridge.

Sophomore forward Jenn Ghiroli (Branford, CT/Branford) was named Most Improved Player. Ghiroli started 10 games and scored three goals, including one game-winner, this season, after going scoreless in three starts as a freshman. The award is given to the player judged by her teammates to have shown the most improvement either from last season to this season, or from pre-season to year’s end.

The Coach’s Award went to junior goalkeeper Amanda Musarra (Hasbrouck Heights, NJ/Hasbrouck Heights). Musarra played in all but 45 minutes of the season. She finished third in the CACC and 15th nationally with 8.22 saves per game. Players were asked to vote for the teammate that sets the best example and helps others on and off the field

Junior midfielder Adrienne Giordano (Woodbridge, NJ/Woodbridge) earned the Team Academic Award, given to the non-freshman with the highest cumulative grade-point average following the fall semester, for the second consecutive year. Giordano has a 3.75 GPA as a biology major in Felician’s pre-physical therapy program.

Felician head coach Erin Fitzgerald instituted the team’s internal award program when she took over the Golden Falcons prior to the 2003 season. Team members are asked to vote for the winners of the Most Improved Player and Coach’s Award in advance of the banquet following each season.
