RUTHERFORD, N.J. – On Senior Day at Job Gymnasium, seniors Jason Romer (New York, NY/Wadleigh) and Derrell Thomas (Harlem, NY/Manhattan Center) helped spark Felician College to an 81-72 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference interdivisional men’s basketball victory over visiting Chestnut Hill College on Saturday afternoon.

Romer, a swingman who started at shooting guard, scored a team-high 19 points with nine rebounds. Thomas, the point guard, recorded 12 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists. They were among five double-figure scorers for the Golden Falcons, who erased a 44-39 halftime deficit in the first minute of period two and built as much as a 10-point second-half lead.

Chestnut Hill (5-21, 3-12) used an 11-4 run to pull to within 73-70 with 3:43 remaining, then had three possessions with the score still the same but came up empty each time. Romer and Thomas combined to make four consecutive free throws extend the advantage to 77-70 at 0:45, and the Golden Falcons held on from there. Rod Barrow (Harlem, NY/Legacy) posted season highs of 18 points and 12 rebounds for his first career double-double for Felician (10-16, 4-11). The Griffins also placed five scorers in double figures, led by 22 points from freshman Kevin Whaley (York, PA/Dover). Classmate Trenton Davidheiser (Pottstown, PA/Pottstown) had 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Romer, Thomas, and Jason James (Charlotte, NC/Millbrook School [NY]) were honored in pre-game Senior Day ceremonies, along with senior cheerleader Jillian Candelaria (Rutherford, NJ/Weehawken).
