RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Dominican (N.Y.) College used 54-percent second half shooting from the floor to pull away from host Felician College for a 76-66 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference North Division men’s basketball victory on Tuesday night at Job Gymnasium.
Dominican (12-13, 7-7) came out of a first half which featured seven ties and nine lead changes with a 35-31 advantage. The Chargers scored the first seven points of the second period, then, still up by 10 nearly three minutes later, rattled off a 12-0 run for their largest lead of the game, 63-41, with 12:52 to play. Felician remained competitive with a 14-2 spurt for an eight-point deficit at 2:55, and drew to within 72-66 at 0:33, but the Chargers went 4 for 4 at the foul line to wrap up the victory. Dominican shot 48 percent for the night and held the Golden Falcons to 35-percent shooting.
Junior Will Carty (Bronx, NY) scored 18 points with four assists in 17 minutes for Dominican, topping four double-figure scorers. Shelton Gibbs (Jersey City, NJ) scored 14 points and Kresimar Knez (Astoria, NY) had 13 points and six rebounds for the winners.
Senior Jason Romer (New York, NY) paced the Golden Falcons (9-16, 3-11) with 18 points and eight rebounds. Rod Barrow (Harlem, NY) scored 16 points and Devon Young (Monmouth Junction, NJ) finished with 15 points and six rebounds. The loss eliminated Felician from CACC playoff contention.
