RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Dominican (N.Y.) College women’s basketball team outscored host Felician College, 8-0, over the final two minutes, 54 seconds, of its 39-34 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference North Division victory over the Golden Falcons on Tuesday evening at Job Gymnasium. Dominican is ranked No. 9 in the Northeast Region of NCAA Division II.
The Chargers (18-7, 12-3) held Felician without a field goal for the final 5:53 of the contest, and closed the game on a 15-3 run over the last 10:13. Dominican took the lead for good on a lay-up in transition by sophomore Adele Laskowski (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) with 49 seconds left, but the outcome was in doubt until Felician’s Janelle Biamonte (Secaucus, NJ/Marist) (6 points, 8 rebounds) missed on a tying three-point attempt from the right corner in the closing seconds.
Laskowski finished with nine points, five rebounds and three assists, and Charger teammate Althea Chambers (Yonkers, NY/Cardinal Spellman) pulled down 13 rebounds, including seven offensive. Dominican owned a 25-9 advantage on the offensive glass. Junior Amanda Bartee (Jersey City, NJ/St. Mary) led Felician (3-22, 1-14) with nine points and eight rebounds, while Breanne DeFalco (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) scored seven points with three assists. The Golden Falcons held Dominican to 19-percent shooting, but shot 23 percent from the field and committed 25 turnovers.
Felician received a three-point field-goal from Shannon Gilmartin (Port Monmouth, NJ/Mater Dei) to beat the halftime buzzer for a 22-17 deficit, then outscored the Chargers, 9-0, in the first nine minutes of period two. The Golden Falcons took their largest lead, 31-24, with 10:13 to play.
