THOMAS NYACK, N.Y. -- Felician College put six scorers in double figures and received the first career double-double for senior Derrell Thomas (Harlem, NY) in its 89-73 CACC North Division men's basketball victory over host Nyack College on Wednesday night at Bowman Gymnasium.
Felician (9-14, 3-9) led, 22-21, late in the first half before senior Jason Romer (New York, NY) sank consecutive three-point field goals to start an 11-0 Golden Falcon run lasting two minutes, 26 seconds. Felician led, 35-26, at halftime, and never let the Warriors within seven points in the opening minutes of period two before extending to a 56-42 lead with 12:04 left in regulation. The lead never sank below double-digits the rest of the night, bulging as high as 20 points.
Romer (4-6 3 FG) led all scorers with 20 points, and Thomas registered 11 points, six rebounds, and a career-high 10 assists. Felician received solid contributions from its two freshman starters -- Kashiff Foster (Somerset, NJ) (16 points, 7 rebounds) and Devon Young (Monmouth Junction, NJ) (15 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists), while first-year junior Rod Barrow (Harlem, NJ) (6-7 FG) scored 16 points in 22 minutes. The Golden Falcons, who shot 53 percent from the field, also got 11 points off the bench from Richard Fegins (Linden, NJ).
For the Warriors (10-14, 5-8), John Vandunk (Hillburn, NY) recorded 15 points and nine rebounds and Sheanan Martinez (Haverstraw, NY) added 12 points and 11 boards. Felician, which salvaged a split of the season series between the teams, snapped a five-game conference losing streak.
