Felician Athletics - 2/13/08 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL - Women Fall At Nyack Despite Efficient Offense

NYACK, N.Y. -- The Felician College women's basketball team posted a season-high scoring total, but lost to host Nyack College, 77-71, in CACC North Divison action on "Think Pink" Night at Bowman Gymnasium on Wednesday.

Both teams sizzled from three-point field-goal range, with Felician making a season-high 10 of 17 attempts for 59 percent, while Nyack was 11 for 22, including 8 for 14 by sophomore Kelsy McIntosh (North Pole, AK). Back-to-back threes by McIntosh capped the key stretch of the game, a 12-2 Nyack run that turned a four-point second-half Warrior lead into a 60-46 advantage with 8:18 left in regulation. When the Golden Falcons crept back to within 70-64 at 2:14, McIntosh's final trifecta ended their comeback hopes. She finished with 32 points, including 23 in the second half.

Felician (3-20, 1-12) received 21 points from sophomore Janelle Biamonte (Secacus, NJ). Jo Milling (Pymble, Australia) recorded career highs of 15 points, five assists, and two blocks, and Shannon Gilmartin (Port Monmouth, NJ) went 5 for 7 from long range to score a season high 15 points with five assists. Dee Dee Smith (Monticello, NY) contributed 10 points and eight rebounds. Felician shot 50 percent from the field, but committed 15 turnovers and forced only seven.

The opening half featured four ties and four lead changes before Nyack (9-13, 6-7) took a 31-29 advantage into the locker room. Felician took its last lead with 17:27 to play on a Gilmartin three, before a conventional three-point play by McIntosh put the Warriors ahead, 38-37, at 16:59. Nyack also put four scorers in double figures, with Shelly Yount (Belvidere, NJ) accumulating 13 points, nine rebounds, five assists, and three blocks.

Nyack was observing "Think Pink" night to promote awareness of breast cancer. The loss eliminated the Golden Falcons from CACC playoff contention.
