RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician College nearly erased a nine-point deficit in the final one minute, seven seconds, of its 59-57 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference North Division women’s basketball loss to visiting Bloomfield College on Saturday afternoon at Job Gymnasium.

After a lay-up by Bloomfield’s Alexis Sweeney (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) put her team ahead, 56-47, with 1:07 to play, the Deacons committed two backcourt turnovers sandwiched by an empty trip at the foul line. The Golden Falcons took advantage for seven consecutive points to trail, 56-54, at 0:16, and were forced to foul. Emily Horrocks (Milford, CT/Law) made both, then Felician’s Janelle Biamonte (Secaucus, NJ/Marist) followed with three free throws after being fouled from long range. But after Bloomfield’s Ciera Darby (Trenton, NJ/Trenton) converted the second of a two-shot foul at 0:04.3 for a two-point lead, the Deacons defended the final possession without allowing Felician a shot attempt.

Darby topped Bloomfield (10-11, 7-5) with 15 points and five assists. Sweeney scored 13 points, and Tiffany Musgrove (Willingboro, NJ/Willingboro) pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds for the winners. Biamonte led all scorers with 22 points and added eight rebounds, and Dee Dee Smith (Monticello, NY/Monticello) scored 10 points for the Golden Falcons (3-19, 1-11).

Felician led, 24-23 at halftime, and built as much as an eight-point advantage in the second half. The Deacons then crafted a seven-minute, 21-5 run for a 47-39 lead with 6:15 remaining in regulation. Felician, in conjunction with the Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Association, hosted “Think Pink” Day to promote awareness of breast cancer.
