Felician Athletics - 2/2/08 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL - Biamonte Double-Double Not Enough For F.C. Women

CALDWELL, N.J. -- Felician College sophomore Janelle Biamonte (Secaucus, NJ/Marist) recorded her first career "double-double" in her team's 76-41 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference North Division women's basketball loss to host Caldwell College on Saturday evening at the Newman Center.

Biamonte had 18 points and matched her career high with 10 rebounds, but no other Golden Falcon scored more than six points. The Caldwell defense held Felician to 27.5-percent shooting, including 1 for 16 from three-point range, and helped cause 27 Golden Falcon turnovers. The Cougars' Kirsty Leedham (Ellesmere Port, England/Cheshire) came off the bench to score 21 points in 22 minutes, while teammate Dana Leary (Bridgewater, NJ/Immaculata) posted 11 points, eight rebounds and six steals.

Caldwell (12-7, 6-5) was able to get many easy baskets in transition early in the game, keying a 19-4 game-opening run from which the Golden Falcons found it difficult to recover. Felician (3-17, 1-10), which never led, pulled as close as 24-13 in the first half, trailed, 33-17, at halftime, and scored the first four points of period two. But shortly thereafter, the Cougars embarked on a 22-6 run which stretched a 14-point lead to 61-31 with 9:49 to play. Caldwell swept the season series between the teams for the third consecutive season.
