Felician Athletics - 1/19/08 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL - Offense Off Mark In Loss To Lightning

WILMINGTON, Del. -- The Felician College women’s basketball team was held to 26-percent shooting in its 64-35 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference interdivision loss to host Goldey-Beacom College on Saturday afternoon at the Joseph West Jones Center.

Both offenses struggled in the early going, but Goldey-Beacom (6-9, 4-3) recovered to take a 14-4 edge eight minutes into the contest. The Lightning carried that same margin, 27-17, into halftime, with Nicole Turoni (Taylor, PA/Riverside) scoring all 13 of her points in the opening period. Leading by 11 with 15:55 to play, the Lightning used a 17-5 run over the next five minutes to take control, 51-28. Felician never cut its deficit under 20 the rest of the afternoon.

GBC’s Toni Jones (Lewes, DE/Sussex Tech) scored 14 of her game-high 18 points in the second half. Dee Dee Smith (Monticello, NY/Monticello) topped the Golden Falcons (3-13, 1-7) with 12 points and eight rebounds, while Janelle Biamonte (Secaucus, NJ/Marist) added nine points and seven boards.
