1/14/08 MEN'S BASKETBALL - Thomas Named To MBWA Honor Roll
Derrell Thomas '08 is the first Felician men's player to be honored by the MBWA this season.
RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician College senior Derrell Thomas of Harlem, N.Y., has been named to the Presto Sports/Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association Weekly Men’s Honor Roll, the MBWA announced today.
The MBWA Player of the Week and Weekly Honor Roll are chosen from the nearly 75 senior colleges that play basketball in the New York tri-state area. One set of awards for each gender is selected out of nominees from all three NCAA Divisions by a panel of eight media members. This week’s MBWA Men’s Player of the Week was Bryant Dunston of Fordham University.
Thomas, a 5-foot-11 point guard, averaged 16.0 points and 6.5 assists and shot 52.4 percent from the field despite an 0-2 week for the Golden Falcons. He had 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting (3-4 3FG) with six assists in last Thursday’s home loss to Post University, and followed with 14 points, four rebounds and seven helpers in Saturday’s home loss to Nyack College.
Thomas has amassed 9.7 points and a team-high 4.7 assists per game in 2007-08. He is second in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference in field-goal percentage at .547. He is a 2003 graduate of the Manhattan Center for Science & Mathematics. Felician has a 6-8 overall won-lost record heading into Tuesday’s league game Post.
