RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Post University went 12 for 20 on three-point field goal attempts to key its 62-52 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference North Division women’s basketball victory over host Felician College on Thursday evening at Job Gymnasium.
Felician (2-11, 0-5) broke a 47-47 tie on a lay-up by Dee Dee Smith (Monticello, NY) with four minutes, 39 seconds, left to play in regulation. However, that was the Golden Falcons’ last field goal of the contest. Post scored nine consecutive points – three-pointers by LaToy Coley (Brooklyn, NY) sandwiching one from Jennifer Rose (New City, NY) – for a 56-49 edge at the 1:52 mark. Four free throws by the Eagles’ Stephanie Goss (Manchester, CT) in the final minute sealed the victory. Post scored 15 of the game’s final 18 points.
The triumph for the Eagles (1-11, 1-4) ended a 12-game losing streak dating back to last season, and was the first win in the collegiate head-coaching career of Post’s Tracey Garofalo. Coley (5-10 3FG) led all scorers with 17 points and freshman Mallorie Michalk (Meriden, CT) added 11 points and four assists for the winners. Smith paced the Golden Falcons with 16 points, eight rebounds and three blocks, while Janelle Biamonte (Secaucus, NJ) recorded 10 points, eight rebounds and four assists.
Felician recovered from a 12-point first-half deficit to take a 28-27 edge into the locker room. The Golden Falcons built a six-point lead early in the second period before an 8-0 Post run gave the Eagles a 38-36 advantage at the 12:50 mark.
