12/20/07 GENERAL - Intramural Basketball Comes To Dramatic Conclusion Print E-mail
ImageThe rejuvenated Felician Intramural Basketball League enjoyed a strong two-month run in the Fall 2007 semester, culminating with a championship-game victory by "Little Havana" on the final night of classes.

Under the direction of Felician recreation coordinator Del Harrison, the league organized in mid-October. Sign-ups eventually reached eight teams, with an average of eight players per team. Harrison formed a 12-game regular season, with games two nights per week based on gym availability. Coaches and referees were provided predominantly by the Golden Falcon varsity men's basketball team.

All eight teams were invited to the playoffs, which were set up in a single-elimination, NCAA-style bracket format.

"I was pleasantly surprised by how intense, closely-contested, and high-scoring the playoff games were," Harrison said. "For example, we played 15 minutes, running time, and the championship game was 64-61. The teams really got some shots up there."

In the Dec. 12 title match-up, Little Havana defeated "Team Dimez." Members of both finalists will be presented with T-shirts at a future home varsity basketball game. Champion Little Havana was coached by sophomores Andre McFarline and Marshall Akins. Team members were Hector Bello, Mike Buckelew, John Calise, Jason Ivy, Albie Sanguiliano, Dave Schoer, and Marcos Torres.
