RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Early-season trips to Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Fort Myers, Fla., highlight the non-conference portion of the 2008 Felician College baseball schedule, which was released today.
Felician has 47 games slated for this spring, all against Division-II opponents. The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference has returned to its former three-game series versus league opponents, giving the Golden Falcons 27 conference contests. The CACC has also mandated wood bats for league games for the first time, making all three conferences in the Northeast Region wood leagues. The CACC, Northeast-10 Conference and East Coast Conference will therefore play regular-season interleague games with wood as well.
Led by fifth-year head coach Chris Langan, Felician opens the season at the Ripken Experience Northeast Challenge from Feb. 22-24. Following two northern games, the Golden Falcons will spend their spring break at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Fort Myers from March 15-20.
“This year’s schedule will be a huge challenge for us,” Langan said. “We play some top teams on our first two road trips. West Chester (Feb. 23) has been a World Series team, and Dowling (Feb. 23) and Molloy (Feb. 24) were ECC Tournament teams last year. We finish in Florida with Nebraska-Omaha (Mar. 20), who was a 2007 World Series participant. We will find out where we stand pretty early. Once we get home, our CACC schedule is pretty grueling and with the three-game series and the addition of wood bats, it will be a battle to reach one of the four playoff spots.”
The Golden Falcons were 23-26 last year and tied for second place in the CACC with eventual tournament champion Wilmington (Del.) University. Felician does not face the Wildcats until the final league series of the season, May 3-4.
