RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The University of Massachusetts Lowell outscored host Felician College, 16-4, over the final four-and-a-half minutes of its 67-55 non-conference women’s basketball victory over the Golden Falcons on Wednesday night at Job Gymnasium.
A three-point play by Felician senior forward Dee Dee Smith (Monticello, NY/Monticello) completed her team’s comeback from a 17-point halftime deficit, tying the game at 51-51 with 4:30 to play in regulation. But Megan Berry (Ipswich, MA/Ipswich) made a three-point field goal on UMass Lowell’s next possession, sparking a 10-0 run and leaving only 1:28 on the clock. UML shot 51 percent for the night and held the Golden Falcons to 37-percent shooting.
Revital Carmon (Bat-Yam, Israel) scored 12 points with a game-high 11 rebounds for the River Hawks. Smith matched her career high with 22 points and added nine rebounds for Felician (1-7), which also received nine points and four assists from freshman Cassandra Chenet (North Bergen, NJ/North Bergen).
UML (4-5), which never trailed, led by as many as 21 points in the opening period and took a 38-21 edge into the locker room. The Golden Falcons, however, went on a 19-6 run in the first nine minutes of the second half. After a three-pointer by Chenet pulled Felician within three for the first time since the opening minute, the teams went scoreless for nearly two minutes before Smith tied it.
