NEW CASTLE, Del. – The Wilmington (Del.) University men’s basketball team scored the game’s last 17 points to earn a 70-59 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference interdivision victory over visiting Felician College on Saturday afternoon at the Pratt Center.
Felician’s Devon Young (Monmouth Junction, NJ) converted two free throws to give his team a 59-53 advantage with four minutes, 52 seconds, remaining in regulation. From that point on, however, the Golden Falcons went 0 for 6 from the floor, 0 for 1 at the foul line, committed two turnovers, and were out-rebounded, 8-0. Wilmington senior Taurean Temple (Newark, DE) scored 11 points down the stretch, including the go-ahead three-point play at the 2:42 mark.
Antonio Sherrod (Baltimore, MD) paced three Wildcats with double-doubles with 22 points and 13 rebounds. Temple, who like Sherrod shot 9 for 14, finished with 21 points and 13 boards, and point guard Mike Shipman (Bronx, NY) had 15 points, 12 rebounds, six assists and three blocks. Young topped Felician (3-5, 0-2) with 17 points, and James Harper (Eatontown, NJ) posted 14 points and 12 caroms.
The Golden Falcons led, 32-24, at halftime, and took its largest edge of 43-31 with 14:25 remaining. Wilmington (3-5, 1-1) would stay alive by out-shooting Felician, 51-28 percent, in the second period. The Wildcat defense blocked nine shots, forced 20 turnovers, and held Felician to 33-percent shooting on the day.
