RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Despite 23 points, eight rebounds and four assists from transfer Janelle Biamonte (Secaucus, NJ/Marist), the Felician College women’s basketball team lost to visiting Queens (N.Y.) College, 80-58, in non-conference action Tuesday night at Job Gymnasium.
Queens (1-1), which never trailed, received consecutive three-point field goals from Nicole Caldera (Elmurst, NY/Christ the King) to open up a 22-9 lead 13 minutes into the contest. The Knights led by as many as 23 points in the opening period and took a 43-23 edge into halftime. Felician got as close as 52-38 with 13:41 left to play, but Queens scored the next seven points to maintain control.
Queens made 14 of 24 three-point attempts (58.3 percent), including 8 of 11 in the first half. They also shot 86 percent at the free throw line. Amanda Bartlett (Mesa, AZ/Red Mountain) posted game highs of 25 points and six assists, and teammate Bethanie Mandresh (Medford, NY/Patchogue-Medford) shot 6 for 6 from long range in scoring 20 points. The game contained 50 turnovers, 47 personal fouls and 47 free throws and lasted 1 hour, 55 minutes.
