ELKINS, W. Va. -- The Felician men's basketball team finished as the runner-up in the season-opening Davis & Elkins College Tip-Off Classic following a 92-80 championship game loss to the host Senators on Sunday evening at the McDonnell Center.
Davis & Elkins (2-0) shot 61 percent from the floor in the second half, scoring 52 points in the period to overcome a 41-40 halftime deficit. The key stretch came when the Senators outscored Felician, 21-9, to turn a 64-64 tie with 11:08 left in the game into an 85-73 lead with 2:17 remaining.
D&E put five scorers in double-figures, led by Brett Rector's (Ravenswood, WV) 20 points. Danny Manuel (Waynesboro, VA) had 19 points and eight assists, scoring seven points in the decisive run, and Jelani Jackson (Harrisonburg, PA) added 18 points and 12 rebounds. All-Tournament selection Jason Romer (New York, NY) scored a game-high 23 points for Felician, shooting 5 for 9 from three-point range.
