LOCK HAVEN, Pa. -- The Felician men's cross-country team ran in a tight pack to end its season by placing 15th out of 26 schools at the NCAA Division II East Regional Championship on Saturday afternoon on the campus of Lock Haven University.
Felician's five scorers crossed the finish line one minute, 35 seconds, apart, sixth-best among the competing schools. Four of the seven Golden Falcon competitors were returning from last year's regional race, and all four improved their 10,000 meter time by more than two minutes. Yet the team finished one place lower than 2006 on the fast course.
Senior Paul Chegwidden (Hamburg, NJ) led the Felician contingent as well as all Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference runners with a time of 32 minutes, 55 seconds, good for 38th place overall out of 172 entrants. Classmate Mike Burghoffer (Stockholm, NJ) was 68th in 33:51, and he was followed closely by sophomore Brad Schepise (Milltown, NJ) (72nd, 33:58), freshman Jay Rodgers (Westmont, NJ) (79th, 34:11), and senior Alex Wright (Stockholm, NJ) (85th, 34:30).
Felician finished first among seven CACC teams in attendance with 342 points. Edinboro University won the regional championship, scoring 47 points, and Jeff Weiss of Slippery Rock University was the individual winner in 30:32. |
