Paul Chegwidden is the 2007 CACC Men's Runner of the Year PHILADELPHIA – The Felician College men’s cross-country team placed seven runners in the top 12 in winning the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference team title at the league championship meet on Saturday morning at Fairmount Park’s Belmont Plateau. It was the fourth consecutive conference championship for Felician and its sixth in the eight-year history of the event. Felician senior Paul Chegwidden (Hamburg, NJ/Wallkill Valley) was the individual champion.
Chegwidden traversed the 8,000-meter (5-mile) course in 26 minutes, 35 seconds. He won the race by 54.16 seconds, and broke the meet record, set by Walter Tum of Bloomfield College in 2004, by five seconds. For his efforts, he was named CACC Runner of the Year, Felician’s first on the men’s side since 2001.
With 22 points, the Golden Falcons won the team title by a 31-point margin over runner-up Philadelphia University. Event host University of the Sciences in Philadelphia finished third with 101 points.
All seven Felician entrants attained all-CACC status, believed to be unprecedented in meet history. Chegwidden earned his third all-league plaque, and teammate Jay Rodgers (Westmont, NJ/Haddon Township) was named CACC Rookie of the Year after finishing third overall in 27:38. Rounding out the scoring positions were sophomore Brad Schepise (Milltown, NJ/Spotswood) (6th, 27:52), senior Mike Burghoffer (Stockholm, NJ/Wallkill Valley) (7th, 27:57), and senior Brian McDonnell (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) (8th, 28:00). The race saw 64 entries and 15 were tapped for all-league.
Also earning all-CACC honors for Felician, and allowed to raise the point total of runners finishing behind them, were senior Alex Wright (Stockholm, NJ/Wallkill Valley) (11th, 28:10) and freshman Brenden Krewer (Farmingdale, NJ/Colts Neck) (42nd, 33:58.05). Felician head coach John Brennan was named CACC Coach of the Year for the fourth consecutive season.
